Abstract

Typically, schools are overflowing with sirens, bustling classrooms and children playing. However, this all changed with the global pandemic as education delivery was reformed to align with federal, state and territory regulations. For most Australian children, delivery shifted to ‘remote’ online learning. Yet, what were the experiences of children and their families living in remote locations? This presentation will explore the impact of COVID-19 on First Nations children and their families specifically, in the Ngaanyatjarra and Pintupi region of the Western Desert.

About the Speaker

Dr Catherine Holmes has a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, a Master of Education, AMI 3-6 Montessori Training from Perugia, Italy and has recently completed a PhD in child practices in the Ngaanyatjarra and Pintupi region of the Western Desert with CAEPR.
